This tree was lit using floodlamps and a generator, with a little light painting.
This ancient Hornbeam pollard in Hatfield Forest is an incredible tree. At the time I was playing around with the HDR process which showed all the details in the tree including the aerial roots. This won first place in the Forest Stewardship Council's photography competition in 2014. Although my photographic style has evolved over the last few years this is an important image as it is the first that really got my work noticed.
This is one of my earlier tree images and was taken after a 6am sunrise shoot. My daughter was not impressed at how long she'd been out on a winter's morning and was urging me to go home. Lucky I grabbed this last picture.
