Two Rivers - Marion Sidebottom

Marion Sidebottom

Photographer & Artist, MA, ARPS

Whilst working on a tourism project I spent many hours researching the local area on Google Earth and dreamed of seeing it for real from an aeroplane. For a special birthday my family arranged for me to take a 2-hour flight with my camera in a two-seater Cessna. I arranged the route with Peter my pilot and he cleared our flight with Southend airspace as we had to cross the flight path of big commercial jets flying into Southend airport. On the day it was like flying around the sky in a tiny sportscar, bumping up and down the air thermals and hanging out the window with my camera. I did not take account the fact that I might get motion sickness and the strength of the wind trying to wrench the camera out of my hand (I had a tight grip and straps) and making my eyes and nose stream as I forgot my scarf and glasses. As a result, I certainly looked different on my return, a shade of green, tear stained cheeks, red nose and witchy looking frizzy hair. However, it was worth it, and I hope you like the results.

Fifteen of these images are being displayed at Paul J King, Venue 10 in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex as part of the Burnham Art Trail 2019 from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th June.

Prints and greeting cards are available during the trail at Burnham Museum or you can purchase direct from me at Art on the Quay on Sunday 23rd or Saturday 29th June. Alternatively you can contact me direct through the contact page on this website.
